Project Overview

The Breast Cancer Comfort Foundation was a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment by providing comfort bags, comfort baskets, emotional support & community. When we first connected with them, their website was an unfinished WordPress site with missing content, broken links & inconsistent formatting.

The goal was to transform the site into a meaningful, well-structured hub where patients, families & supporters could find information, donate & get involved.

Problem

The foundation's existing website suffered from severe structural & content issues:

  • Every page was empty or filled with placeholder text
  • Posts & pages were misused interchangeably, making navigation confusing
  • There was no consistent design language, layout, or branding
  • Important information about the organization's mission, programs & people was missing
  • The site offered no clear way for visitors to donate, volunteer, or contact the foundation

These problems made the organization look inactive & undermined its ability to reach donors, volunteers & families in need.

Solution

The website was rebuilt from the ground up using React.js & the JAM Stack, focusing on structure, storytelling & accessibility.

The first step was to research the foundation extensively by reading local newspaper articles, watching community news coverage & collecting every available asset from the old site. From there, every section was rewritten, redesigned & rebuilt to reflect the foundation's heart & mission.

Key improvements included:

  • Content recovery & curation: Collected & organized all existing text, photos & videos from the old site, blogs & online news sources
  • Complete redesign: Created a cohesive visual identity with consistent typography, colors & page layouts
  • Expanded structure: Added dedicated pages for the team, volunteers, donor recognition & personal stories from survivors & supporters
  • Memorial & gratitude sections: Built a memorial page for those lost to breast cancer & a "Share Your Story" page highlighting messages from recipients of comfort packages
  • E-commerce store: Developed a shop where visitors can purchase & send comfort baskets directly to their loved ones
  • Donation & volunteer tools: Integrated donation links & volunteer sign-up forms to make community involvement seamless
  • Connectivity: Embedded social media links (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram & Twitter), a Google Map, Google Business Page & a contact form
  • Ongoing content: Added a blog section to share foundation updates, survivor stories & awareness initiatives

The finished site became a living, breathing reflection of the organization's compassion & impact.

Results

The new website completely transformed how the foundation connects with its community:

  • Increased engagement through new volunteer & donor sign-ups
  • Stronger brand credibility thanks to consistent design & storytelling
  • More visibility from search engines & social media referrals
  • Positive feedback from both the foundation's team & families they serve
